Rabbits, a Road-trip and the Renaissance Pleasure Faire

It was April 24th and I was up pretty early, probably too early because when I ran across an e-mail with info about the 2010 Giant Chinchilla Nationals that was taking place on May 1, in Columbus, Ohio, I thought the timing could be perfect for a road trip. It still made sense to me when I woke up Skye and told her about my plan before heading out to the Santa Monica Farmer's Market and Malibu Feed where we were going to get 25 lbs of Quick Grow for the flock of chicks that were rapidly growing in the garage. It was somewhere on the PCH that it hit me, what a bad idea it was.

Skye was pissed. No roadtrip. No rabbits.

This announcement made be dream of the open road and big bunnies.

Instead it was off to the Renaissance Faire, it was the Swashbuckler's weekend after all.

The Renaissance Faire

Within moments of entry we quickly realized we weren't in 2010 Los Angeles anymore.

Yes, its real.

And the characters just got stranger and stranger.

Okay I get the mermaid, Swashbuckling Weekend slant but what's it got to do with chocolate?

What Swashbuckling Weekend would be complete without Jack Sparrow. What it has to do with the Renaissance is beyond me but then again, I don't really get the inclusion of Brazilian Capoeira

Or an Indian Peacock Dance...The Tibetian monks found it to be photo worthy.

I found this to be a pretty cool line up.

Now a Dutch knife-throwing comedy routing, that's what the Rennaissance period was all about.

Skye was amused and kind of made a friend.

Skye almost got one of these dragons, even though they cost way too much, but after the rabbit road-trip disappointment of the morn she had me feeling really guilty. But luckily she couldn't make up her mind about which dragon she wanted and then just decided against it.

Later that evening we went to see a wonderful home-school production of Boris and Bella.

It was a long, wacky, beautiful day.
